Service Selection
Our entire service selection is built on client-centered support, participation and truly individual care.
We emphasize safety, continuity, trust and professionalism. Our administrative team also includes people who use personal assistance themselves — their experience is reflected in the quality and understanding of our services.
An assistant works alongside the client, not on behalf of the client, always supporting the client’s own decision-making and independence.
Services are funded through a service voucher or as a purchased service by the wellbeing region. Some services can also be purchased privately. Avustajaklinikka supports clients throughout the application process and in starting the service voucher — we do not leave clients alone at any stage of the administrative process. We help determine which service model best suits each individual.
The overall service is coordinated jointly by the responsible service coordinator and the service manager. They ensure that every assistant is trained for their role and that each client’s individual needs are fully considered.
Service Descriptions
Personal Assistance
An assistant supports you in daily activities such as dressing, mobility, studying, hobbies, or social interaction — exactly as you wish. Our assistants work alongside you so that you can live a life that reflects who you are. Our assistants enable your choices and your participation.
Demanding Personal Assistance
Demanding personal assistance is intended for situations where the client’s everyday life requires special expertise, precision, and continuity. This service includes, for example, round-the-clock assistance, transfers and the use of assistive devices, support with personal hygiene, support with medication management, as well as communication and interaction support in various situations.
Even demanding assistance can be warm, humane, and safe. Avustajaklinikka’s demanding personal assistance combines professionalism with humanity — we ensure that assistance is provided correctly, but above all, with heart. We do not believe in institutional-like assistance; individuality is present in everything we do.
Demanding personal assistance requires particular trust and stability. At Avustajaklinikka, we ensure that a personal, permanent team is built around the client — a team that knows the client, their need for assistance, and the rhythm of their everyday life.
Professional Personal Assistance
Professional personal assistance combines assisting with professional guidance. It is intended for individuals who need their assistant to have social or healthcare training, neuropsychiatric expertise, or guidance skills in everyday situations. The service includes, for example, maintaining daily routines, structure, supporting interaction, and guidance that strengthens functional capacity. The service is carried out in cooperation with the client’s network, rehabilitation professionals, and, when necessary, healthcare providers.
Professional assistance means competence and understanding, but also respect and listening. The client’s own voice guides everything — the professional works alongside the client, not above them.
Special Participation Support
Special participation support is intended for individuals who are not able to direct personal assistance but need continuous interaction, presence, and support for participation in everyday life. The service is based on spending time together, supporting communication, and enriching the client’s sphere of life. Special participation support is a relationship-based service, where presence, respect, and safety are essential. The service may also include communication support methods such as picture cards or supported signing.
Participation is everyone’s right. At Avustajaklinikka, we help our clients live, experience, and participate — not just be present.
The service is granted based on the wellbeing services county’s assessment of service needs, and it can also be carried out in cooperation with family members and other parties.
Substitute Services (in connection with personal assistance)
Substitute services ensure that the daily life of the assistance user continues safely and in a planned manner even when their regular assistant is prevented from working due to, for example, illness, vacation, or a sudden absence. The service can also be used by families providing informal care as well as clients who have a continuous need for assistance and multiple assistants. Avustajaklinikka takes care of recruiting the substitute, providing orientation, and handling employer obligations. Substitute service can consist of a single short substitute shift or be part of a longer service package. The purpose of the service is to secure the continuity of assistance without interruptions, while respecting the client’s needs.
Substitute services are usually provided with a wellbeing services county service voucher or as a purchased service. In some situations, the service can also be offered as a self-paid short-term service, for example without a valid decision, if the need is urgent.
Assistance Requiring Special Expertise
Assistance requiring special expertise refers to a service where the client’s need for assistance is related to a specific disability or illness — such as a brain injury, severe physical disability, ventilator use, visual or hearing impairment, developmental disability, or a situation involving multiple disabilities — and where the assistant must have deeper-than-usual competence, precision, and experience. This may include, for example, knowledge of communication methods, support with medication management, handling mobility aids, or understanding of special nutrition.
For us, special expertise does not mean distance. It means that we understand — and know how to act safely and professionally. Avustajaklinikka’s specialists support life, not just survival.
Assistance for People Recovering from Brain Injuries
The aftermath of a brain injury may affect memory, concentration, mobility, and behavior. Avustajaklinikka’s assistants support the client’s functional capacity calmly, consistently, and in a rehabilitative manner. The service may include support in daily life, reminders, scheduling, assistance with household tasks and hobbies, as well as maintaining social interaction.
We understand that every day is different. In Avustajaklinikka’s service for people recovering from brain injuries, calmness, safety, and clarity form the foundation of everything. The service emphasizes individuality and an approach that supports recovery. The assistant does not do things for you, but helps you do them in your own way and at your own pace.
Assistance for People with Visual and Hearing Impairments
An assistant supports the client in mobility, communication, errands, and daily activities in a safe and respectful manner. Our assistants are trained in guidance methods for people with visual and hearing impairments, as well as communication methods such as plain language, picture-based communication, and the basic techniques of sign-supported communication.
Seeing and hearing may differ, but participation remains the same. In Avustajaklinikka’s service, the client’s own rhythm and way of communicating guide everything.
Assistance for People Using Ventilators
This service is intended for individuals who use life-sustaining ventilators or other respiratory support at home or in their everyday environment. Our assistants are trained to support clients in using their ventilator, in care procedures, in repositioning, in communication, and in daily activities safely and calmly. The assistant works in close cooperation with the client, their family members, and other healthcare professionals.
Safe assistance is a prerequisite for life.
Avustajaklinikka’s service for individuals needing respiratory support combines professional confidence with human presence — assistance is not merely a procedure, but a relationship of trust.
Providing the service requires approval from the treating unit and orientation to the ventilator the client uses. Avustajaklinikka works closely with hospitals and home nursing services to ensure safety.
Proficiency in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
Communication is more than speech. At Avustajaklinikka, we believe that everyone has the right to be understood and heard. This service supports individuals who use sign-supported communication, pictures, symbols, communication devices, or other AAC methods to assist with expression and comprehension.
Our assistants support the client’s communication in daily situations and ensure that interaction is smooth, respectful, and based on the client’s own methods. Our assistants are committed to listening, observing, and supporting the client’s own way of expressing themselves.
Substitute Arrangements During the Family Caregiver’s Leave
A family caregiver’s leave is a right — not a risk.
Avustajaklinikka ensures the continuity of everyday life so that the family caregiver can rest without worrying about their loved one. Substitute arrangements during the caregiver’s leave provide a safe and reliable solution for situations where the family caregiver is on leave or temporarily prevented from providing care. Avustajaklinikka ensures that the person receiving care gets the assistance, care, and safe presence they need during the caregiver’s absence.
The service is intended for individuals who receive family caregiving support and who require an assistant during the caregiver’s leave.
The service is usually paid for through the wellbeing services county as part of family caregiving support services. In some cases, the service can also be provided with a disability services voucher or as an additional self-paid service.
